Getting to Know Allyson Bram, MS, CCC/LP

We’re pleased to welcome Allyson Bram to GE&P. She’s come on board as our Speech and Language Consultant and she’s the first participant in our new monthly Q&A with staff. She has a BS in Communication Disorders from Penn State University, and an MS in Speech-Language Pathology from Emerson College. She is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist, who is licensed in both NY and CT.

Q: We’re thrilled to have you at GE&P and we look forward to some of the new programs you are planning for us. Can you tell us a bit about what you have in mind?A: Yes, in addition to individual speech/language therapy and evaluations I will be running some new group programs. We will be running social skills groups, language development groups and articulation groups to address a broad spectrum of speech and language needs. These groups will allow children to learn speech and language skills in a more natural environment. We also plan to reach out to parents and learn what programs they think their children need most. I am really excited to help families in lower Fairfield County meet the communication needs of their children!

Q: Please share with us your background and qualifications.A: My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in the area of speech-language pathology. I am nationally certified Speech and Language Patholigist, and licensed in NY and CT. Over the course of my career I have provided services to all age groups spanning pediatic through adult. My areas of specialty include working with children on the autistic spectrum, along with those with articulation disorders, developmental delays, hearing impairments, and stuttering disorders. Additionally, I am both PROMPT and LiPS (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program) trained. I really enjoy hosting workshops for professionals and parent groups and have spoken at local and national conferences.

Q: Are there certain signs I should look for if I think my son/daughter might be experiencing speech or language delays?I would tell a parent to speak with a licensed speech and language professional if they are worried about their child’s speech and language development. Many children with delayed speech improve rapidly with early intervention, so I would recommend that parents do not take a “wait and see” approach to their concerns. If a parent is looking for a framework of what is typical development, a great resource is asha.org. Teachers and pediatricians can also help parents determine what is typical for children for their age. Since each situation is unique, and there are many facets to speech and language development concerned parents can contact me at either 661-1609 in Greenwich, or 594-9777 in New Canaan.
