Join Us For the First “Empowering Parents” Event on Wednesday, March 25, 2009

On Wednesday, March 25, we’re hosting our first event in our new Empowering Parents Series: The Covert Curriculum. The speaker series, which includes a number of informational events covering the emotional, social, and behavioral skills that students need to thrive, is presented by our education experts.

Vicky Newman, Director of Greenwich Education & Prep, says “As we grow our practices in Greenwich and New Canaan, we are reaching out to parents to educate them about their children’s social and academic needs. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new parents at our Empowering Parents events.”

Parents are invited to “Stress and the Student: How to help your child manage stress and develop emotional resilience” on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 7:00pm at The Greenwich Water Club in the Coxswain Lounge at 49 River Road in Cos Cob.

Presenter Tammy Moscrip, PhD is Greenwich Education & Prep’s Director of Clinical Services. Her discussion will cover how the emotional dimension of education is often overlooked, while studies show that emotional intelligence is even more critical to success than IQ. Dr. Moscrip will offer insight into the relationship between emotion and cognition, the role of stress in students’ lives, and essential advice for families.

Presentations, which will be followed by Q&A periods, are free of charge. Coffee and refreshments will be served. Reservations should be made in advance.

Please email rsvp@greenwichedprep.com or call 203.661.1609 to reserve your spot by Monday March 23. Those who are interested in childcare should RSVP by March 18.

Future dates and topics in Greenwich Education & Prep’s Empowering Parents program are:

April 30 - Behavior 101 - A parent’s introduction to the theory and practice of behavior modification
May 26 - Social Success: Understanding the importance of social skills in every stage of education
